Point Cloud Clash Analysis
Canopy Consulting developed a technology-led workflow to assess potential clashes between trees and electrical infrastructure using LiDAR data, point cloud analysis, and a machine-learning supported pipeline.
The project required more than a standard tree assessment. Vegetation and network assets needed to be understood spatially, accurately, and at scale. By working with point cloud data, Canopy was able to analyse where tree canopies interacted with infrastructure corridors and identify areas requiring closer review.
The work brought arboricultural knowledge into a digital environment. Instead of relying only on ground-based observation, tree structure and infrastructure relationships were assessed through spatial data. This allowed potential conflicts to be reviewed with greater consistency and helped direct attention to the areas where arboricultural input mattered most.
The machine-learning pipeline supported the identification and processing of tree-related data within the point cloud, creating a more efficient pathway for analysis across a complex asset network.
Scope
of Work
- LiDAR and point cloud review
- Tree and infrastructure clash analysis
- Machine-learning supported assessment workflow
- Spatial data processing
- Priority areas for arboricultural review
Outcome
The project demonstrated how advanced data workflows can support better vegetation management around critical infrastructure. It also reflects Canopy’s broader approach: combining arboricultural expertise with technology to make tree-related decisions clearer, faster, and more defensible.
