City of Canada Bay

Canopy Consulting was engaged to support the City of Canada Bay with a young tree audit and proactive works program across the local government area.

The project formed part of Council’s broader urban canopy strategy, following the planting of more than 4,000 new trees across the LGA since 2020. These young trees had already been captured in Council’s Forestree asset system, with the next step focused on checking establishment, updating tree data, identifying defects or vandalism, and completing minor works where required.

The audit required a practical mix of arboricultural assessment, data management, and field-based establishment care. Each nominated tree was inspected by qualified arborists, with existing asset records checked and updated in Forestree.

Data capture included species, health, structure, age class, useful life expectancy, height, canopy spread, DBH, inspection notes, photos, and future inspection requirements. Where minor establishment works were identified, such as stake removal or light formative pruning, these could be addressed as part of the audit. Larger works, replacements, vandalism issues, or contractor-required tasks were recorded for Council follow-up.

The project also required efficient field planning across multiple suburbs, parks, streets, and public spaces. This was not just a count of young trees. It was an asset health check for a major planting program.
