While it is expected of tree owners, landowners, or property managers to maintain trees on their properties in top shape, it is still vital to seek professional assistance to minimise property damage and human endangerment from foreseeably dangerous safety risks.

Section 5B(1) of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) indicates that landowners and managers have a duty of care to take precautions against a risk of harm that is foreseeable and not insignificant. This provision, as well as the common law duty to protect one’s neighbour, results in urban trees being inspected and reported on by arborists.

There are various ways a consulting arborist can inspect a tree’s condition. At Canopy Consulting, our management services include Risk Assessment, Resistance Drill, Aerial Assessment, and Sonic Tomograph Reports, as well as Strategic Documents, Plant Health Care and Tree Injections, and Tree Inventories and Management Systems.

The arborist then provides a report on the tree's current condition, factors that may enhance or lessen the possibility of failure (and hence risk), and offers recommendations after having found and evaluated the potential tree hazards.
